FSU football games will cost almost twice as much this season
Last season, the Florida State Seminoles won 13 games and had their best season in years. This season, fans will pay for it.
A report published by Oddspedia suggests that Florida State fans will see the largest increase in game day costs of any college football program. According to the report, Seminoles fans will spend nearly twice as much on game days as they did last year.
Using the criteria of two parking tickets, one parking permit, two beers, two sodas and two hot dogs, Oddspedia found that FSU’s game costs are estimated at $272 per game. The cost is driven by the most expensive hot dogs in college football, which cost $15 a piece, according to Oddspedia.
Tickets to Seminoles games are also quite expensive, with a pair costing $182. Only Georgia, Florida and Colorado are more expensive. Last year, Florida State tickets were just outside the top 30 in average game day cost, but after last year’s success, prices have risen.
Last season, Florida State’s average cost per game was $137.
Success in the previous year is a common reason for price increases. Other schools that have increased daily prices at the stadium include Arizona, Penn State, LSU, USC and Kansas.
How these schools performed in 2023
— Arizona: won their final seven games, beat Oklahoma in the Alamo Bowl, finished the season ranked No. 11 in the AP Poll, their best ranking since 1998, and joined the Big 12 Conference for 2024.
—Penn State: finished the Big 10 standings one year after eleven wins with 10-3 behind Michigan and Ohio State.
—LSU: reached 10-3 during the season and saw quarterback Jayden Daniels won the Heisman Trophy while setting a record for the highest passer rating in a season. The Tigers won the ReliaQuest Bowl, beating Wisconsin 35-31. It is notable that Daniels is no longer the quarterback, having been drafted by the Washington Commanders with the second pick of the NFL Draft.
—USC: Despite a Holiday Bowl win over Louisville, the team finished a disappointing 8-5. Quarterback Caleb Williams was selected first in the NFL Draft. USC joined the Big Ten this season.
—Kansas: won 9 games, including a victory over UNLV in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl, the first win in a bowl game for the school in 15 years. The program is also renovating its football stadium and will play home games in Arrowhead Stadium and Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City in 2024.
Aside from Florida State, two schools joined new conferences this season after the Pac-12 disbanded. Penn State has enjoyed two consecutive seasons of double-digit wins and LSU has been successful in Brian Kelly’s second year as head coach and Kansas plays in an NFL stadium.
How will Seminoles fans react? There may be some grumbling, but if FSU starts winning 10 or more games a year again and the team makes the newly expanded 12-team playoffs, the majority of fans will be willing to pay a little more.
