Lapid calls for agreement for Israeli prisoners in Gaza ‘before they all die’
Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid has renewed his calls for an agreement on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of prisoners in the besieged Palestinian territory.
Lapid expressed concern in a post on X on Tuesday, saying more and more prisoners were being lost over time.
He also pointed the finger at Benjamin Netanyahu. Lapid rebuked the rhetoric of Netanyahu and his ministers, saying they were sabotaging the prospects of an agreement.
“Enough with the briefings, enough with the tweets, enough with the rhymes in front of the cameras,” he wrote on X.
“All attempts by Netanyahu to sabotage the negotiations must stop. Do business now before they all die.”
Earlier on Tuesday, the Israeli military announced the recovery of the bodies of six prisoners held since October 7, 2023.
The newspaper IsraelHayom reported that Israel was examining the bodies of the six to determine whether they may have been killed by Israeli fire.
According to the Israeli military, identification procedures and medical examinations should provide information about the circumstances of death.
The families of Israeli prisoners blame the regime for their deaths in the Gaza Strip.
The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has repeatedly stated that it would release the remaining Israeli prisoners in exchange for a complete end to Israel’s barbaric campaign of death, destruction and genocide.
Hamas has made their release dependent on the return of the displaced Palestinians and an end to Israel’s siege of the Gaza Strip.
