5 Discontinued Fast Food Items You Completely Forgot About
Often times, we find ourselves craving old fast food menu items that we used to devour. Of course, there are options like the McDonald’s Snack Wraps that people love to this day. Personally, I can say that I miss Taco Bell’s XXL Grilled Stuft Burrito as it is different from their usual beef and cheese sauce mashup. It’s one of those things that often makes you reminisce about what these giant fast food corporations give and take from us.
Sometimes, however, there are bizarre oddities. Some fast food dishes are still not really recognizable as something you would sell to the public. You would call them specialties and hope that people would go for the cheap alternative. But there are also things that should not be served within 5 minutes. The things that these corporations do to stay one step ahead of the competition. Then they become relics deep in the depths of our memories.
Recently, a Twitter account (also known as X) dug deep into the past to recall various fast food dishes that he still dreams about. The thread highlights some of the best options that I fondly remember eating and some of the craziest ideas that restaurants offer.
5 forgotten menu items that fast food restaurants no longer offer
Burger King Ribs
Burger King loves to sell crazy menu items that leave you baffled. When I worked there, the fast-food giant sold pulled pork sandwiches for a short time. Plus, they weren’t doing very well, so we sold them for a dollar just to get rid of our inventory.
However, nothing is as crazy as Burger King selling “Fire Grilled Ribs” in 2010. Back then, they were available as a pack of 6 bone-in with BBQ sauce for $7.49. Of course, inflation changes things, but who in their right mind eats fast food ribs for $8?
Potato wedges from KFC
Conversely, KFC’s potato wedges were perhaps the most underrated fries in fast food. Finally, the fried chicken maker took them off the menu in 2020, breaking my heart and many others’. These days, you’ll only find me at Popeyes when I get chicken.
Chocolate Ravioli from Little Caesar
What was in the air in the 90s? Little Caesars sold those disgusting ravioli in the name of menu variety and maybe authenticity? I don’t know, but it sounds gross in theory. Why not just stick to cookies and brownies?
McDonald’s Chicken Selects
McDonald’s dominates the fast food chicken nugget market. They are arguably the best unless you opt for the spicy alternative from Wendy’s. However, the Chicken Selects stand out because the breading is different from the McNuggets. Often times you get a crispier experience and even a different sweet chili dip if you want. These days they try to do what Chick-Fil-A does with their breading in the McCrispys. However, if they know what’s best, the Chicken Selects can warm the hearts of fast food customers once again.
The McPizza
Staying with McDonald’s, this must be where the creators of SpongeBob SquarePants came up with the idea for the Krusty Krab Pizza. I just can’t understand why these fast food companies are so desperate to compete in every market. Why can’t we stick to our specialties? Anyway, they launch the McPizza in the 90s, but in 2000 they realize how silly it is and take it off the market. I can’t remember anyone I know ever trying it, I need to know who out there is still begging for the McPizza to make a comeback.
