Summary | LAFC 3:0 Seattle Sounders – Leagues Cup 2024
LAFC advanced to the Leagues Cup semifinals for the first time in club history with a comfortable 3-0 away win over the Seattle Sounders on Saturday night at Lumen Field in Seattle. Ryan Hollingshead and Kei Kamara each scored a first-half goal before Denis Bouanga scored his 11th goal of the competition after the break to become the top scorer in the Leagues Cup’s two-year history.
LAFC will host the Colorado Rapids in the semifinals at BMO Stadium on Wednesday, August 21. The winner will advance to the Leagues Cup final on Sunday, August 25.
Just like in their knockout round wins over Austin FC and San Jose, LAFC took the lead in the first 20 minutes of the game. A long ball from Maxime Chanot from inside their own half found Hollingshead, who sprinted behind the Seattle defense on the left wing. Hollingshead let the ball pass and shot with his right foot past Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei, giving LAFC a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute.
Kamara doubled that lead eleven minutes later, acrobaticly volleying a poor clearance from the Sounders defense past Frei to make it 2-0.
Less than 10 minutes into the second half, LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who recorded his third shutout in four Leagues Cup games, collected a through ball in the Black & Gold box and quickly kicked the ball forward for Bouanga to launch a counterattack. Bouanga intercepted the kick just inside the center circle, outpaced two Seattle defenders and hammered a right-foot shot off the post into the net, sealing LAFC’s 3-0 victory.
